Lymphadenectomy and sentinel node detection by gastric cancer

Gastric cancer is a major malignant disease; 2 434 (48,7/100 000) males and 2 064 (39,4/100 000) females were involved with the disease in

the Czech Republic in 2005 (i. e. 41 % in males and 50 % in females more then in 1989) (1). Tendency of medical care is to offer an optimal

method of treatment. Surgeons have realized that their chances are exhausted; nevertheless, radical surgery still represents the only

way of complete cure. Recently, a benefit of examination of the sentinel lymph node and an extent of lymphadenectomy as a port of

the a procedure are discussed in relation to the diagnosis.
